Life Shouldn’t Be A Brick Wall……..

Food For Thought…. and the people in our lives.

Being brutally honest — Change sucks – especially at times when it comes to the people in our lives.  Just when you feel comfortable, safe and secure in your “atmosphere”, out of the blue it happens. You don’t even see it coming – poof – change – Some good, some bad but almost always totally unexpected. You’re not ready for what’s to come, it probably hadn’t even crossed your mind but you are totally blindsided and it sends you reeling in the opposite direction. Nothing is ever guaranteed in our life, except death.

It is inevitable – people come and go, in and out of our lives constantly. Most people you can count on to stick around for longer periods of time but there are several throughout our lifetime that just seem to disappear into the darkness. For whatever reason, be it life, love or circumstance. It happens, they don’t mean to cause hurt or hard feelings and in reality, most of the time, they do not even realize what has happened until it just hits them one day – “whatever happened to so and so” and then fades back into the memories of our mind.

People come into our lives showering us with their presence, a new common bond or thread, a new feeling or experience. Some of these people last for years and years and in actuality by the time you reach your golden years, you can count on one hand how many true friends that you have had throughout the years. Sad – I know but true. People call us their friends and even at times they truly mean it but as time goes on, their friendship fades and diminishes over time.

Human nature dictates our future it seems and unless we have a firm grip on our convictions, we lose ourselves along the way. I have been family, I have been a friend, an enemy, a lover, a son, a brother, a husband, a Dad , laughing-smiley-face-emoticon-RcA6KpMRi but through it all I have been me. I have been real, I have been fake, I have loved and I have been loved. Just like the rest of us here on this great big rock that we live on. We all acclimate to our surrounding in some form or fashion and try to fit in the best that we can. We must always remember – that we are all human; we make mistakes and bad choices. We try to learn from the negative and correct it and strive to make us a better people.

Sometimes in a relationship, people leave us or choose to be with others instead and that most oftentimes hurts – a lot. Others – well not so much. The cause varies and people move away, they find other friends or choose activities that do not resonate with you and they move on. They get busy, they get different jobs, they develop other interests and sometimes relationships grow apart at times. People pull away for one reason or another. Sometimes you understand it and sometimes it remains a mystery. And then there are some times, distance, choices or some other situation simply ends a friendship. Cuts it right on the dotted line and removes it all together.

Whatever the reason, life does move on – new people and new friends will come along with some new and unexpected experiences. Sometimes it’s not them that outgrow you but you that outgrow them. Life has a way of teaching us and exposing us to other interests throughout each season and some of these things we tend to gravitate toward instead of away from and with that come even more people who share the same interests and objectives. Life ebbs and flows constantly just like the sea and with each new “tide” bring new treasures, new experiences and new memories. Life – Live it, Love it, and then leave it for others to enjoy.

candle out

I would like to try and live my life so that people would remember me not for all the mistakes that I made along the way but for all the good that I tried to do – Funny how life gets in the way of that. I have always been the type of person who looks for the good in people, for that silver lining. I almost always find the bad but there is still a lot of good in this world. And in this world, it’s just me and you. It is up to us to look past the hurt, the color, the negative and see the real person, see the real situation and try to make the best out of this real situation. We all need to quit making more out of certain conditions and finally become “the human race”. We all need to find that common bond that unites us all as children of God and stop all of this backstabbing, undermining and negative things in our lives – The circumstances that we have created and somehow choose to be in.

After having grown up a bit (it only took me about 30 years) I want people to know that they can count on me and even want to be around me. I want to show people that there is love in this world. I would like to always show people my best side and be there for them at all times whenever I can. I have many regrets from my youth for the way that I have treated people in my life and there have been times in my life where I wasn’t such a great person. I have never claimed to be perfect and I am sure that my actions may have even driven people away from me. Life’s experiences have taught me many things and I can finally be truthful with myself. You see – that is the key to true happiness. If nothing else – just be honest and true to yourself first, and you will quickly see just how life is not so bad after all. Just as a Junkie or an alcoholic, you must first admit your shortcomings, your mistakes and your bad choices. Then you must make a conscience effort to avoid making those same mistakes and try living your life a little more positive. One step at a time is all it takes and consistency is the key.

WAKE UP AMERICA

wake-up-america-2

WAKE UP AMERICA AND LOOK AT THE SH@T STORM THAT IS HEADED OUR WAY…………

This article is about the type of government the Islamic jihadist group that calls itself “the Islamic State”, for the Foreign and Domestic Terrorists that are wreaking Havoc in and on our lands and for the acts of Treason that have been committed by our people.

Please pardon my expletive nature in the title but I had to grad your attention.  Folks – this is serious. You really don’t understand the full gravity of the ever developing circumstances that have been happening around the world lately. Over the course of the last 6 years, there have been more and more attacks both foreign and domestic. Up until recently, these attacks have been sparse and “at arm’s length” but now more than ever we need to be vigilant as there has been a rise in Domestic Terrorism. My intention is NOT to alarm anyone but moreover to make you aware of what is really going on in the world and in our back yard.

Have you seen these people?

london attackers Dylan Roof

Or even these People:

These people look just like or eerily similar to people that we see here every day (in America). They may live next door or run a Shop in your neighborhood. The fact remains, that we should have Immigration Laws and Guidelines to ensure our safety. We should have strict laws that deal with Domestic Terrorism and strict laws that deal with Treason (remember Treason)?  In law,  treason is the crime that covers some of the more extreme acts of violence and non-violence against one’s nation or sovereign.

Oran’s Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as a “citizen’s actions to help a foreign government overthrow, to make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation]”. In America, it is also considered treason to attempt or conspire to overthrow the government, even if no foreign country is aiding or involved by such an endeavor. I think I have recently seen this in the news and is going on now as a matter of fact.

As a young child, when I did something wrong or against my Parents rules, we received a Whooping, a Spanking, we got grounded, sat in a corner and we got our toys taken away.  Hmmmm, so what happened if we did it again, well we got punished even worse the next time until eventually we learned that that type of behavior was not acceptable.  We learned from our decision and actions. We learned that those actions had consequences.

Spanking                                gallows over there

I have brought up all of that to say this – we, as a Nation – have sat back and let ourselves become complacent, become so slack and in a sense transitioned into the “United States of the Offended” for so long that we are now scared or unable to speak up and do the right thing for fear of retaliation. This younger generation that has been brought up and raised to be more accepting and tolerant of certain situations need to realize the severity of what is really going on. The more we “give” the more they “take”. – Plain and simple. Most people will think that I am being too harsh or paranoid – but I have seen a lot in my short time, I know the patterns and I know what is coming.

Nothing before or since the terror attacks of 9/11 in terms of lives lost, scope, and impact have been so devastating. We know that the al Qaeda led and inspired operatives still seek to strike our homeland to include the use of weapons of mass destruction.  Globally fueled terrorism continues to occupy much of our attention to this day. As we were reminded by the shootings in Kansas, Arkansas, and the nation’s capital over just 11 days this spring, the threat of domestic terror—Americans attacking Americans based on U.S.-based extremist ideologies—is alive and well. Today’s domestic terror threats run deep, from hate-filled white supremacists… Black supremacists…to highly destructive eco-terrorists…to violence-prone anti-government extremists…to radical separatist groups.

domestic-terrorism

It’s an especially tall order to try to prevent these attacks given the civil liberties we all enjoy as American citizens, including the right to free speech. Hate and anger are not crimes; neither are hard-line and poisonous ideologies. It’s only when actions by groups or individuals cross the line into threats, the actual use of force or violence, or other law-breaking activities where it then becomes terrorism.

No Charge…….

No Charge

No Charge …….

Originally penned in 1974 by Harlan Howard and recorded by Melba Montgomery, for me, “No Charge” was really made famous by Gospel Singer Shirley Caesar in 1975. Keep in mind that I was born in 1968 so I was 7 when she recorded it – it wasn’t until the year 2000 when it truly hit home for me. My Mother had some issues that she was forced to deal with and in an attempt to maintain my faith, I began listening to more Gospel, worship and praise songs and music.  That’s when I discovered that wonderful song and gifted singer.

I have always loved what is typically known as Southern Black Gospel.  Songs and Hymns that, for the most part were performed by the African American Culture in the South. Jubilee songs and sorrow songs were two types of spirituals that emerged during the 18th and 19th centuries and were adapted throughout the decades. This type of Gospel has always grabbed my heart and made me feel closer and stronger to my faith than any other music. Now please don’t get me wrong, I truly love Bluegrass Gospel just as much but there is something about the Black Southern Gospel.

Now for those of you, who have never heard the song “No Charge”, please let me give you a synopsis of what it is about:

A young boy hands his mother an itemized list of charges he says he’s owed for performing various chores and comes to collect. The mother responds by reminding her son about all the things she’s done for him, that she never asked him to pay for services rendered and that, all things considered, “the cost of real love is no charge.” Enlightened, the young boy realizes that his mother is right and changes the amount due to “paid in full”. “No Charge” was one of the few songs that talked about motherhood during this time of the Christian movement, which might be one of the reasons why it was so popular.

As a young boy, I was very tender hearted and Mom used to always say that I got my heart from her. Mom is now 72 years old and to this day – my Mother and I often refer back to this song to remind us just what our love has endured over the years. The love between a Mother and a Child is something very special and that it is often times taken for granted by so many. There are also so many people that, for whatever reason; are abandoned physically or emotionally by their parents and loved ones and who have not experienced this blessing. I am very thankful for my Mother and I thank God every day for what I have.

If you have never heard this song before – I urge you to check it out. Like I said, I prefer Shirley Caesar’s rendition but any musician / Singer will surely do it justice.

Now go Hug your Mother – and tell her you Love her!

Searching…… reaching…… empty handed?

depositphotos_33916361-3d-man-thinking-sitting-on-a-backless-stool-with-blank-thought-bubble

Over the course of the last 2 weeks, I have struggled for something to write about. Sure, I have many thoughts and ideas throughout my day but nothing that I truly want to write about that would reflect my true feelings, emotions and nature. I guess what I am looking for is something with “meat on its bones”. (Speaking of Meat – I love to cook for those of you who do not know). Unlike some of the great Authors here on WordPress, I find myself wanting to write and express myself but when I have a chance to sit down and write something, I draw a blank – so freaking frustrating!

So I have decided to set up camp and leave this up for the day, go about my normal routine and see what comes to mind – a few lines at a time. Sound Fun?? Well we shall see! (speaking of camp – I really need to finish my “to-do” list on my RV so that I can go camping).

First off – it’s not as easy as it sounds. I walk away to do something and my mind wanders back to this page – back to my un-thoughts, because as soon as I sit down, I lose it. I have so much in this life to be thankful for, so much love, happiness and blessings that I can write about, I just can’t bring them to the forefront. I am starting to get a bit worried about this actually – does this mean that I am coming down with depression, has my life gotten so mundane and routine? I am going to force myself to find inspiration. Not that I need inspiration to live my life….. (speaking of inspiration, do you know that God loves you?).

Eureka – I have found my inspiration. A worthy cause to invest my time and energy in. I have the greatest idea of all times. At least for this minute……. So now I must bid this post adieu and say  – Empty Handed? – I think not!

Don’t give up! Keep the positive flowing – fight the good fight – and keep writing!sword

Update on Mom…..

Update on Mom…….

Mom2

As you may have read, my Mom has recently been diagnosed with Colon Cancer. In this last week, she has just undergone a Goiter Surgery on her neck. Now again, my Mother is 72 years old so you can imagine how worried we were about her and the surgery. Not the procedure itself, but the anesthesia and recovery part. I have to say that the Nurses and Doctors at Rex Hospital in Raleigh were great. The Anesthesiologist was awesome and even explained that they were going to do an arterial main line in order to monitor her level of consciousness more closely during the procedure. On the day of the procedure, we met with the Doctor and several of the nurses who explained everything in detail and then asked if we had any questions and they actually gave us time to ask them. Wow – we are not used to that level of care and service around here.

So, the procedure took just a little bit longer than expected mainly due to the amount of time required in recovery. I guess she had one of the best sleeps that she has had in a long time. Either way, the surgery was a success and she is now back at home recovering. We are waiting on pathology to let us know for sure if there was anything that the doctor had missed in his diagnosis and to make sure that there is no cancer involved with the Goiter – fingers crossed and praying.

Colon-Cancer-Ribbon

Now onto the Colon Cancer part – Mom had a full CT Scan done of her chest and stomach area and they indicated that they did not see anything unusual in the scan. All of her blood work came back just fine so they are pretty confident that they have caught this thing early enough to prevent it from becoming something more terrible and devastating. With that news, they have given Mom a surgery date of May 3rd to go in and remove about a foot or so of her colon. It seems that there were 3 polyps in her colon – two on the ascending and one in the transverse. The Doctor explained that they had to remove a section below and a section above the Polyps to potentially get all of the cancer out. Now this means they have to take out the entire Ascending and about half of the Transverse sections of the colon.

It’s a pretty big surgery and we are on high alert as to her wellbeing. As before, we are not so much worried about the procedure itself because Mom is and has always been one tough lady but this is a 4 to 5 hour surgery and the risks are much greater due to the fact that she has COPD from previous years of smoking. (Mom hasn’t smoked for over 20 years now).  I guess it really hit home at the severity of this when Mom asked me to fill out her Advance Directive and appoint me and my Sister Brenda as her Care Providers in her Healthcare Power of Attorney.

So now it’s just a waiting game – that and putting all of our trust and faith in God that she will come out of this in good health – keep her in your prayers if you feel inclined as all prayers and good thoughts are coveted as blessings.
